The Power of Youth Connection
International Youth Day is a celebration of potential, resilience, and the collective power of young people to shape a better future. For Alumni Steering Group (ASG) members like Redempta Blandine Ishime and Zoe Daisy Wyngaard, it’s also a moment of reflection, on personal journeys, the role of networks, and the unstoppable drive of youth to create change.
For Redempta, the day is a reminder that meaningful change starts with what’s already in our hands. “Start where you are, use what you have, and never underestimate the power of consistent small actions,” she says. Zoe echoes this sentiment, highlighting the incredible energy and creativity youth bring to solving global challenges. It’s a time to celebrate the next generation stepping up and to acknowledge the experiences that have shaped past and present changemakers.
Both leaders credit youth and alumni networks for giving them the tools and community to make a real impact. Redempta describes these networks as platforms to share ideas, collaborate with inspiring peers, and turn passion into tangible action. Zoe reflects on the sense of belonging and inspiration that comes from connecting with people across borders, pushing her to think bigger and act boldly.
The potential of youth networks lies in their ability to transform individual dreams into collective movements. Whether sparking global campaigns, sharing resources, or amplifying voices, these connections have the power to drive lasting change. For Redempta, one such connection through her alumni network introduced her to a mentor who opened doors for her advocacy work, allowing her community’s voice to be heard on a global stage.
“When youth unite to build their network, we can turn shared dreams into collective action that transforms communities and shapes the future,” says Redempta. Zoe adds, “We can create a cascade of innovation and impact that inspires the world.”
They agree that investing in alumni networks is critical. These communities bridge experience and innovation, connect past and future leaders, and keep the momentum of youth-led change alive. By fostering collaboration, mentorship, and opportunity-sharing, alumni networks ensure that the vision and energy of young leaders continue to grow and multiply.
This International Youth Day, we honor the young leaders driving change and the networks that make their impact possible. Because when youth are connected, supported, and united, there is no limit to the change they can create.
